"Aaah, bliss! Ms. Baez, regardless of her status as a protest singer/political activist, is one phenomenal vocalist. This live set, half the songs in English and half in Spanish, was recorded in a bullring in Spain (you'd have thought someone this right-on would have nothing to do with bullfighting...) and features a rich string section to add to the poignancy that permeates every track. Its relationship with the studio album Diamonds And Rust is solely in featuring all covers bar the title track, and none of the covered songs are shared. Her interpretations of "Let It Be," "No Woman No Cry" and "Famous Blue Raincoat" are heartfelt and well, truly gorgeous." — Sound Quality = 89% - Ken Kessler, HiFi News, May 2016
A very difficult-to-find recording, originally released on a small, independent label. Originally released on a very limited run of vinyl. A beautiful recording with absolutely fantastic sound. Includes a performance of her hit song "Diamonds and Rust" as well as the audiophile classic "Famous Blue Raincoat." This may be an under-the-radar title, but it's a can't miss for the discerning audiophile.
The album chronicles a show performed by Baez in a bullring, naturally, in Bilbao, Spain, in 1988, and it demonstates what makes her such a draw overseas. Half of the collection consists of songs sung in Spanish. This Hybrid SACD plays in both CD and SACD players, as well as all SACD-compatible DVD players.
"This record was made in a bullring in Bilbao, Spain, in 1988. It is dedicated to the Mayor and the people pf Bilbao, who came out between thunderstorms to see me perform. The song in (Euskara) TXORIA TXORI is about a sweet little bird...I want to thank Pasku who taught it to me, and thank the Bilbao public for singing it so beautifully." — Joan Baez.
